Source discrepancies

What the warehouse found when it checked this series: the same figure from two agencies, splice overlaps, published rates against ones recalculated from the index, and outliers.

  • Error in the source5 Jul 2005

Two figures from this source that should agree differ by 0.9 (98.78 against 99.68). Compared with LK.EXT.FX_DAILY_TT.USD.BUY.D.

    Consistency: 99.68 and 98.78, difference 0.9.

USD: TT buying rate should be less than the selling rate

LK.EXT.FX_DAILY_TT.USD.BUY.D: buying rate 99.6800 vs selling rate 98.7800 this day (buying should be < selling). SELL is the outlier: 98.78 vs its own neighbouring days 100.42-100.6 (BUY 99.68 is in line with its neighbours 99.55-99.67). Source data-entry error on the selling side.

  • Error in the source6 Oct 2015

This series reads 148.3; the same figure from the other source reads 143.3. Compared with LK.EXT.FX.USD.SELL.D.

    Two agencies: 148.33 and 143.31, difference 5.02.

LK.EXT.FX_DAILY_TT.USD.SELL.D: IF_Buying_Selling file vs the Data Library

LK.EXT.FX_DAILY_TT.USD.SELL.D: value 148.3300 vs Data Library 143.3100. Whole-day anomaly in the source file: every daily-TT currency (buy and sell) jumps on this one day while every neighbouring day matches the Data Library exactly (e.g. USD/BUY 144.53 here vs 138.9x the day before and after, in both the file and the Library) - re-verified series by series. A single bad row in IF_Buying_Selling_Exchange_Rates...xlsx, not a parsing issue.

  • Error in the source1 Oct 2018

This series reads 183.8; the same figure from the other source reads 170.9. Compared with LK.EXT.FX.USD.SELL.D.

    Two agencies: 183.755 and 170.91, difference 12.845.

LK.EXT.FX_DAILY_TT.USD.SELL.D: IF_Buying_Selling file vs the Data Library

LK.EXT.FX_DAILY_TT.USD.SELL.D: value 183.7550 vs Data Library 170.9100. USD/BUY 180.08 here vs ~167.0 the day before and after). A single bad row in the source file.

  • Rounding26 Apr 2018

This series reads 159; the same figure from the other source reads 159.1. Compared with LK.EXT.FX.USD.SELL.D.

    Two agencies: 159.034 and 159.13, difference −0.096.

LK.EXT.FX_DAILY_TT.USD.SELL.D: IF_Buying_Selling file vs the Data Library

LK.EXT.FX_DAILY_TT.USD.SELL.D: value 159.0339 vs Data Library 159.1300. Every currency differs from the Data Library by under 0.2 LKR on this date - the file records 4 decimal places (e.g. USD/BUY 155.5247) where the Library's copy has 2 (155.43); a precision/rounding difference between two CBSL publications of the same TT rate, not an error.
