The 2001 census excluded the then-conflict-affected districts (Jaffna, Mannar, Vavuniya, Mullaitivu, Kilinochchi, Trincomalee, Batticaloa, Ampara, Polonnaruwa in part): their Urban/Rural/Estate breakdown is "-" (not available) even where a district total exists, kept as printed rather than filled in. 2024's Urban percentage/count columns are footnoted "(c)" ("includes Urban and Estate Urban population") - the footnote is dropped from the code, kept in this note.
