Notes
CBSL Economic and Social Statistics, table 1.40. Compiled by Ceylon Electricity Board. Monthly and annual generation (GWh) and capacity (MW) by power station, nested CEB (Hydro/Wind Power/Thermal/CEB Emergency Thermal, the last a sibling of Thermal by indentation though its total reconciles into 'Total Thermal') and Private (Mini Hydro/ORE/Thermal), 2021-2025. The file on disk is named 'Gross Generation of Electricity by Power Station' but the sheet's own title reads 'Net Generation...'; both are recorded here since neither is obviously the error. The 900 MW CEB coal plant is printed 'Lakvijaya Coal' in 2021, 'Puttalam Coal' in 2022, and 'Lakvijaya Coal' again in 2023-2025 - kept as printed each year rather than renamed. Because the name is kept exactly as printed, load_ess's own (name, freq) keying merges the two 'Lakvijaya Coal' spans (2021, then 2023-2025) back into one continuous series on its own; only 'Puttalam Coal' (2022 alone) ends up a separate one-year series - two series for this station in the warehouse, not three. Verified (scripts kept as throwaway, not in this repo): every Sub Total/Total Hydro/Total CEB/Total Private/Grand Total row's own annual Total column reconciles exactly with its component stations' Total columns, in every year, including 'Total Thermal' against the regular Thermal stations plus 'CEB Emergency Thermal' (CEMPP(Thulhiriya)/CEMPP(Kolonnawa)/CEMPP(Mathugama)/SmallIslands through 2023, then Dakunu Janani/Mathugama/SmallIslands). Source error, kept as printed: 'Total Thermal's own Jan-Dec monthly cells consistently exclude 'CEB Emergency Thermal', while its own annual Total column includes it, every year 2021-2025 - the gap between the row's monthly sum and its own annual figure (44.05 in 2021, 46.71 in 2022, 46.16 in 2023, 12.39 in 2024, 11.84 in 2025 GWh) equals CEB Emergency Thermal's own annual total in each year to within 0.4 GWh. The same style of gap, from a station added to the Total column's formula but not to the row's own monthly cells, affects 'Mahaweli Complex Sub Total' (2021, short by Broadlands' 14.6 GWh) and 'Mini Hydro (CEB) Sub Total' (2024 and 2025, short by Uma Oya's 165.1 and 449.0 GWh); every other row's own months sum to its own Total column. The Grand Total is within 0.5% of table 1.39's Units Generated, GWh in every year except 2024 (16,748.65 vs 16,802.00, a 0.3% gap).
